Gout Companion · animated and cited

Gout, explained

Gout is the commonest inflammatory arthritis, and the one whose cause can be removed. Here it is in moving pictures: watch urate crystals grow and dissolve, follow a flare from a single crystal to a joint that cannot bear a bedsheet, and see why lowering urate to a target works and why it starts slowly.

Every animation can be driven from the keyboard: Tab to its timeline, then arrow keys to scrub and Enter to play or pause.

Schematic. Each spike is a flare. Allopurinol starts at month 12 and is raised step by step.

For students

Every module has an Exam hook box and a citation trail. Finish with flashcards, mnemonics and a quiz.

For patients and families

Look for the In plain words boxes. Bring questions to your own doctor: the app reports what guidelines say, not what you should do.
